Louisiana Family in need

by Greta on December 18, 2007

UPDATE Friday: Soldiers’ Angels sent the family $1,000 including the money raised on this blog – today. Janet Broussard from BSM will personally hand the family the money. The family is currently in a FEMA trailer. They’ve had someone offer to let them stay in a house until they are back on their feet. They are very overwhelmed and thankful for everyone’s support. They can’t believe so many people are wanting to help them.
Update Monday: New Life Tabernacle in Metairie is adopting this family for Christmas
Update Tuesday: Donate through this Chipin Widget or Blue Star Mothers – it doesn’t matter where. We all work together!

On Sunday, December 16, Staff Sergeant Michael Barrett, a Louisiana National Guard Iraq War Veteran’s house was burned down. He and his girlfriend, also a veteran, and her two children had just finished building the house and moving their belongings into the home. When they returned from their last trip to finish moving, they arrived at a pile of rubble that used to be their house. They lost everything from clothes, furniture, Christmas presents, and photos. We are asking for donations for this family in order for them to be able to make it through the holiday season with some sense of normalcy. Any donation will be accepted to include money, Christmas presents, clothes, and anything else that you might think of to help them get through the holidays and beyond. Michael is about 6 feet tall and weights 185 pounds. Chelsea is 5′10″ and weights about 140 pounds. The children are both girls, ages 2 and 4. Again, thanks for all you help.

This young military family is suffering and in need. I’m calling in all my favors and hoping you all will find it in your heart to help out. We are not sure of clothing sizes, but gift cards to Wal-Mart or cash/check donations would be most helpful.

This young man served our country and now it’s our turn to show him how much we appreciate his service. If you would like, please make your checks payable to the BSM of LA. That way your donations will be tax deductible. Our mailing address is P.O. Box 318110, Baton Rouge, LA 70831. I will personally make sure they receive your gift. Thank you all in advance and hope your holidays are bright! Let’s show this family the true meaning of Christmas!
God bless you all!
Janet Broussard
President, BSM of LA
